Henry Hudson Trail

I peddled the Henry Hudson Trail last weekend by myself. Yea by myself I seem to do a lot of that when I'm on my bicycle I guess that's OK my friends are motorcycle people. I trucked the bike up to the Freehold Elks and unloaded the bike there. Not really knowing how I was going to get back to it. The H.H.T. is about 22 miles and goes from Freehold to the Atlantic Highlands.

The first thing I see is a sign warning of the snow on the trail well I'm thinking how bad can it be. Wow was the trail covered with snow for miles on end. I just got this thing about giving in giving up which I was thinking of doing quit a few times. I just kept thinking this was the day you picked soldier on and the snow will be melted when you get closer to the water. Besides I didn't want to tell my son that I gave up. The snow did finally melt ( Some What)and the trip was getting much easier. I stopped for a bagel at this cool place Bagel Time in Matawan.
The trail was very interesting as it's a success of the Rails to Trails organization. It's just there for people to enjoy and sometimes I find that amazing that things are built with no greed in today's world. That is just what it is a beautiful trail with very expensive bridges going over streams and road way. I was very please and happy while peddling. The trail itself is 21.5 miles of beautiful well groomed pathway the last 1/2 mile runs along the sand hook bay and was damaged by super Storm Sandy  and was quit a mess and frozen and tough muddy a lot of fun to say the least this was the sign
leading to that trail. When you just did 21.5 miles you're not going to turn back for the last 1/2 mile. The final trail dropped me off in the town named Highlands. I got a kick out of the town and the little shoreness (I made that word up)of it. Little shops and bars it was a cool little town to pedal through. Then I crossed the bay and continued the rest of my trip on the edge of the Atlantic ocean down to Asbury Park. That is where I hit a brick wall and I had enough. In total it was about 42 miles and I was done. I found a little bar in the pavilion of Asbury had a beer and a burger and few more beers and called my Daughter
Jessica to come pick me up. all in all it was fun to get out after this brutal winter we had this year.
